In respect of awareness building and prevention of HIV/AIDS among young people in Bangladesh through Life Skills Education (LSE) and Youth Friendly Health Service (YFHS), Ongsho Foundation effectively and efficiently completed this project in respective working areas that supported by Ad-din Welfare Centre, HASAB Consortium under the Global Fund to Fight AIDS Tuberculosis & Malaria (GFATM) project.
The project was a collaboration project between Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Bangladesh along with National AIDS/STD Program (NASP). “HIV/AIDS prevention Project among Young People in Bangladesh” has implemented in the country. One of the major objectives of the project is to provide life skill training and youth Friendly Health Service among the young people and Accessing Condom for Young. A “Peer Education” method utilized in project implementation that was the most effective method for making the local young group more aware..
Ongsho Foundation implemented the various activities as a strategic partner according to MoU that were bellow
Life Skill Education (LSE) among Young People implemented, a training module with 18 sessions conducted among the young people to clarifying the matter: Basic information of HIV/AIDS, The physical and mental changes during the puberty period, Bridge model for changing behavior, Analysis of the components of life skills, Negotiation of the vulnerable situation and skill to say “No”, Sexual transmitted diseases (STD).
Sensitization Gatekeeper (GK) Meeting: For raising awareness on HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health issues and building capacity at community level, Ongsho Foundation organized the Gatekeepers meeting in different level. Parents group (father, mother, and guardian), school and college teachers, religious leaders, businessman, political leaders, local govt. and other stakeholders were participated in the GK meetings. GK meeting was one kind of social technique to remove social barrier and created an enabling environment for conducting the Life Skill Education among young people.
Youth Friendly Health Service (YFHS): To ensure health service for young people, Ongsho Foundation build-up referral linkage with selected the Youth Friendly Health Services (YFHS) Center like H&FWC, Upazila Health Complex and District Hospital and NGO clinic. The trained doctor of YFHS of the respective service center provided health service as appropriately.
